IRISH ART FINISHES STRONG IN THE UNIFORMITY STAKES
Arcadia, Calif. (October 23, 2011)—Irish Art, the 7-5 favorite, drove home to take the Uniformity Stakes. He struck the front down the stretch and won going away with Joel Rosario aboard.
“He ran a very good race today down the hill,” said jockey Joel Rosario, “today he stuck close to the pace, so I think he can do whatever he wants to do.” It was Joel Rosario’s third winner on Sunday’s card on a day he had four.
“We were worried about the one hole,” said trainer Carla Gaines, “but as it turned out, it wasn’t an issue. He took to the course like a duck to water.” It was Irish Art’s first stakes win. Irish Art is nominated for the Hollywood Derby, according to Gaines.
Basketball Hall-of-Famer Dan Issel made the presentation for the Uniformity Stakes today. Oak Tree’s Exectutive Vice President Sherwood Chillingworth was also on hand.
Racing will resume at Santa Anita Park on Thursday, October 27.
