Horseman Mark Couto Passes

CARDIFF BY THE SEA, Calif. (Aug. 17, 2013) – Longtime California horseman Mark Couto passed away Friday after a battle with cancer.

Couto owned Air Equine Services in a career that included breeding and owning thoroughbreds.

“He was an all around horseman—rider, trainer, owner, breeder, air transportation manager,” recalled John Harris, Board member of the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

“Mainly, I will always remember him as a wonderful enthusiast for horse racing; a good person, and always a positive influence on all around him.  He died too young, but will be long remembered. My deepest sympathy goes out to his loving wife, Renée and all of his many friends.”

Couto bred and owned under the stable name Sky Chase Farm. He trained during the 1980s and saddled 137 winners after an earlier career as a jockey.
