American Pharoah Draws Post 1 for Preakness

Zayat Stable's American Pharoah drew the rail and was installed the 4-5 morning-line favorite in a field of eight for the $1.5 million Preakness Stakes (gr. I) May 16 at Pimlico Race Course.

The Bob Baffert-trained American Pharoah, winner of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), will again face Firing Line and stablemate Dortmund, second and third in the Kentucky Derby, in the 1 3/16-mile Preakness. Firing Line drew post 8 at 4-1, while Dortmund drew post 2 at 7-2 on the morning line.

Mr. Z, just purchased by Calumet Farm from Zayat Stables, was entered in the Preakness off a 13th-place finish in the Kentucky Derby. Still trained by D. Wayne Lukas, Mr. Z, who has the most starts of any Preakness entrant with 13, drew post 3 and is listed at 20-1 on the morning line. Preakness Stakes (gr. I) $1,500,000 Guaranteed
